Behaviour Counselling & Real Life Training
In recent years the training of dogs has evolved to incorporate gentle, motivational and positive reinforcement methods that are successful and enjoyable, at last it is no longer acceptable to use harsh methods in training or behavior modification. Choosing a class can be hit and miss and improperly managed puppy classes or training using choke chains, pinch collars and other aversives can cause damage before the unsuspecting owner realizes the discomfort it causes their pet. Death due to behavior problems far outweighs death due to illness in young dogs. The Humane Society of the United States estimates 6 - 10 million dogs are put down in shelters each year and only 5% of these due to medical reasons. One-On-One real life training and/or behavior counseling is done in your home at your schedule and pace. Generally 3 - 4 one hour lessons will teach your pet good manners and an excellent vocabulary. Private training sessions avoid the disruptions and distractions of group lessons and incorpoprate unique, tailor-made real life training, so that your pet will receive the appropriate home work for its stage of development and/or behavior and training support. Veterinary personnel can rest assured that I am happy to work closely with the referring practice.
